SANTA ANA – Despite a major slowdown in Orange County’s housing market, home prices are still out of reach for many residents.
That’s the most dramatic of the many disparities highlighted in Tuesday’s release of 2008 Community Indicators report, an annual measurement of 50 issues ranging from housing, health, education and economics.
The ninth annual report can be viewed as a weather report on the county’s overall quality of life and trends, said Mike Ruane, a county executive who presented the report to the board of supervisors Tuesday.
Although the county has moved from a suburban area to a major urban market, it still lags in nonprofit giving and disparities in education achievement and economic well-being, Ruane said.
